Latest works - Jan. 23, 2011

Here's two of my latest works. A panoramic painting and a character concept sheet for a graphic novel in development.

DEFIANCE

"Dying is not difficult, yielding is impossible" ~Jane Grey Swisshelm

Technicals:

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Maybe about 6 hours of work. This is a rough estimate. I can't accurately tell how much time I spent on this one because I took a lot of breaks. I'm really liking this loose method of painting that I'm studying right now. This artwork is a nod to a couple of artists whose works have greatly inspired me. A toast to the greatness of Craig Mullins and Jan Ditlev Christensen!

COWARD THE LION concept art

Concept artwork commissioned by Josh Pierce. It's for a graphic novel in development. That's all I can say about it for now. I really enjoyed making this one.

Technicals

Adobe Photoshop CS5
Approximately 6 hours of work

iPad art: RPG ME

If I were to play Metanoia I would like my avatar to be a swordsman wielding a kampilan and bearing a Bagobo pattern. I would name him "Is4g4ni". This painting of mine was made using the iPad via the apps Brushes for the raw painting and ArtStudio for image-editing. It took me 8 hours to do this. I could have done this in 3 hours using my PC but I chose not to. I wanted to prove that it could be done despite not having the standard tools for doing it. This is my salute to the makers of the film RPG Metanoia.

RPG Metanoia is an animated 3D film made by our fellow Filipinos. It's not perfect. I can mention several areas of improvement mostly having to do with the film's technical aspect. But it is in no way mediocre. Its entertainment value is high. The story is original. It's not boring and it's imbued with values and elements that are unmistakably Filipino. The best thing about it is that it wasn't made by Pixar or Dreamworks. But despite not having the same resources as the two big names, the people who made RPG Metanioa pulled it off. They made something that not only showcases Filipino talent but also inspires Filipino artists such as myself. We can do it. We can do it here and we can do it now.

Maligayang bati sa mga lumikha ng RPG Metanoia! Maraming salamat sa pagbabahagi ng inyong kahusayan! Mabuhay ang sining ng Pilipino!
